Stockyard Cafe Review

A Little History About Youngbloods Stockyard Cafe

The Stockyard Cafe is locally owned, and one of those rare places with a small town atmosphere where everyone knows your name.  The Youngblood's have have owned and operated the Stockyard Cafe for the last 7 years.  They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren.  The Stockyard cafe is a historical marker in the great state of Texas.  Tim Youngblood is a graduate of CIA (Culinary Institution of America).  Every Tuesday at the Stockyard Cafe they have cattle buying auctions, and horse auctions every month.  Local artist Justin Wells stops in everyday for breakfast.  There is a gift shop within the Stockyard Cafe.  Stop in for some fantastic Texas style cooking, stroll through the gift shop, and be a part of the history at the Stockyard Cafe.  Just look for Harry the Buffalo!

Starting at six am, truckers and meat men come to talk business over honest hash-house breakfasts: steak and eggs, breakfast burritos, salsa-garnished huevos rancheros, and stacks of flapjacks. Some mornings, as you walk from your car to the café building, you will be surrounded by mooing cattle and the clear panhandle Texas air will be perfumed by their farmy scent (also known as the smell of money). Once inside the restaurant, though, all you smell is coffee brewing, bacon sizzling, and steaks on the grill.

 OUR REVIEW

Whether you a local or just visiting Amarillo, in our opinion the Stockyard Cafe is worth planning a day around.  This is the real deal. Dinners or breakfasts just don't get any more cowboy than this.  Ron has stopped by for breakfast several times and never been disappointed.  The steak and eggs don't get any better than here and the pancakes ( flapjacks) are wonderful.

Ron and Carol had dinner on Saturday recently.  Carol's Chicken Fries Steak was among the  finest she has ever had.  Ron's steak was very well seasoned and cooked exactly as ordered.  All the sides were appropriate for a fine dinner.

You don't have to have cowboy boots and a Stetson hat to come here, but if you do, you will fit right in.  At least take off your coat and tie and be comfortable in this great casual cafe.  Ladies, come as you are or put on some tight fittin' jeans.  Cowboys like that.  Offering  fine dining runs in the Youngblood family.  Tin's wife Vickie operates Vickie's Place, a very fine breakfast and lunch restaurant located in the lower level the the main building of Amarillo National Bank in downtow Amarillo.
