Review by Ron and Carol

This property has been placed on the National Registry of Historic Places by the Department of the Interior

If you enjoy a lively atmosphere with lots of people having a good time with country music in the background, then we have the place for you.  If you are enjoy  this setting, especially in the evening,  then your are in for a real treat.  Sure, lots of bikers hang out here but many simply casual diners who want to enjoy a cold one with their meal  also patronize Smokey Joe's. (Beer and wine Coolers Only).  The lunch crowd is a really mixed gathering of area business people, travelers and the regular evening patrons from all walks of life.

After dropping by after work and seeing bucket after bucket of iced down beer go out, Ron was surprised to learn the the actually sell more food than alcohol.  After dining with Carol later that evening we found our why.

Heard many people say the chicken fried steak was top drawer, so Ron ordered one after learning how it was prepared.  Smokey Joe's hand cuts all their steaks and the chicken fry is made from the rib-eye and fillet trimmings.  It was so tender that the steak knife brought with  the order was completely unnecessary.  The gravy was super and Ron cut the steak with a fork, it was that tender.  The Beer O Rings (hand beer batter onion rings) were among the best we have ever enjoyed.

Carol ordered a three cheese burger (American Swiss,Cheddar, Jalapeno Jack).  All burgers are made with 1/2 pound of fresh ground beef and abundant toppings of your choice.  We  highly recommend the Beer O Rings for .99 extra, a perfect compliment to a big, juicy, expertly prepared burger.

This is not the place to go for a quiet, romantic dinner, but you might fall in love with the establishment, the wait staff and management.  They are all there to please and the servers are fast, efficient and fun.

Whether you are traveling thru Amarillo or are a local, loosen up and join the relaxed atmosphere and have some fun at Smokey Joe's.  Weather permitting, the huge patio that is right up to the sidewalk on 6th Ave is usually packed during busy hours.

Most weekends there is live music.
