  Ever ask yourself, I wonder who is open at this hour that has some good belly filling food?  We've got an answer for you.  The Iron Skillet Restaurant at the Petro Truck Stop on  Interstate 40. They are open 24 hours, seven days a week and 365 days a year.

Like one frequent traveler said when asked about his dining experiences while on the road,  "The  Iron Skillet in, Amarillo Texas stood out way above the rest (omelet,and waffle stations on the buffet!)".

Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes!   We LOVE The Iron Skillet! And if you're stuck on the interstate at some ungodly early AM hour, their breakfast very good.   At worst, it's a pleasant change-up from the standard highway fast food.  The locals also go here because of the consistent quality food.

We have been to the Iron Skillet many times over the years and have always felt that we got good food, good service (love the canister of coffee) and a fair price.  Ron went there for breakfast recently and had the chicken fried steak and eggs.  The steak was melt in your mouth tender and the eggs, but the hash browns were outstanding.

Thee buffets a day with an excellent selection of fresh salad and fruit items.  You can also order from the wide selection on the menu at any time.

When you arrive, you will walk thru the truckers area to a large public dining area with lots of exceptionally clean booths and tables.  Why not rub elbows with the men and women who get our goods to us every day.  For the most part, they are very clean cut drivers spending a lot of time away from their family to make a good living.  What would we do without them?  Ron asked a driver in the mens room "How is the food here?".  His answer, "It's ok....NO it's usually PRETTY DARN GOOD.

If that is what you are looking for, some "pretty darn good food"  at any hour of the day or night, any day of the year, then perhaps the Iron Skillet is for you.

UPDATE:

Ron and Carol went to the Iron Skillet and found out why the Chicken Fried Steak is so good.  They cut all their own beef and the chicken fry is made from trimed to weight steaks not tough pounded round steaks.  No wonder it is a top seller....scrumptious.
