Home Plate Diner is one of the Amarillo area's most popular casual restaurants for many reasons. This is a locally owned and family operated restaurant for the times you want a home style cooking at a very reasonable price. Don't get us wrong, if you want to impress your friends on how much you can spend of a fine gourmet dinner, this is not the place. We have been there many times and really appreciate the wide selection of side orders. They even offer green beans and okra in in addition to curly fries and other traditional sides. By the way, all frying is done with 100% vegetable oil (NO COLESTEROL). We love the hand breaded chicken fried steak and the home made stew and chilli.
This is a step up and place your order and pick up when your number is called restaurant. This saves on overhead, the savings of which is passed on to the diners. However, I have seen Royce the owner deliver trays to the table of the elderly and handicapped many times. Speaking of the owner, he and or other family members are usually working the kitchen window and placing finished orders on the pick up trays. We have never seen a volume restaurant in Amarillo where the saw as much of the food being set out as Home Plate Diner. This assures consistant quality and prompt preparation of your order.
