Golden Light Cafe - Amarillo
Review by Ron and Carol

  NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK

The Gateway to The West--Old US Route 66

Every once in a while, we need to take a step back and view the past. We have a NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK in the first restaurant built in Amarillo (and perhaps on Old Route 66). The Golden Light Cafe is now operated by its fifth owners and is in the original building. The tradition of great unique hamburgers and such has never been in better hands.

We have been there many times and absolutely love the burgers with grilled onions. However, on our last visit we tried different things. Ron had the Tom Green's Patty Melt with bacon and Carol had All the Way to LA, chili burrito with all the fixing's. We shared an order of fries and we had to ask for a second order of these fresh cut never frozen potatoes. We agree that we have not had better french fries anywhere. The sandwiches were perfection and obviously prepared with pride.

Don't expect a fancy dining establishment, but do expect a lot of Old Route 66 memorabilia. The atmosphere is very casual so come as you are and enjoy.

Why not visit the many antique and resell shops on SW 6th Avenue and drop in at The Golden Light Cafe for a break. Old, original 6th Avenue is alive and well thanks to business owners who that realize that without a past, there would be no present and certainly no future.

Take a look at yesterday and get a head start on tomorrow.

PLEASE:  Tip your server according to service received.  They work hard and much of their income is dependent upon you.  And tell your server, cashier, manager or owner I saw your restaurant on the INTERNET at "The Locals Go Here".
