Amarillo and West Texas is very fortunate to have the world famous Big Texan Steak Ranch as a part of the business community. Sure, tourists and business visitors patronize this fine establishment, but so do the locals, in droves.

The FREE 72 oz. STEAK is well know -- many have tried -- many have failed.  Must eat the steak and all the trimmings in one hour or pay regular price.  Once in a while, someone acnieves this challange.

We went there for Carol's birthday and what a treat. Carol took advantage of the FREE birthday dinner (available to everyone--must show positive id and fill out a form). Her steak was prepared exactly as ordered and all the side dishes were very good. Ron had the spare ribs and everything was very well prepared. The strolling cowboy singers were a nice touch, especially for a 49th birthday (again). There was not a Johnny Cash in the group but they were very entertaining and performed three songs for us. The thing that impressed us the most, aside from the food, was the intimate atmosphere that can be achieved in such a huge restaurant. Around the sides the booths are quite private but you can view the impressive western decor and many small and large groups having a wonderful evening.
